The secret law behind every AI obsession

Amos Bar Joseph June 30, 2026

I’m Amos Bar Joseph**, co-founder of Swan, the first Autonomous Business OS. At Swan, we’re building what we call the Autonomous Business: a company that scales to $10M ARR per employee with no bloat, no assembly lines, no Cog Culture. Just humans in their zone of genius, amplified by AI agents.*** I write The Autonomous Age to share contrarian insights from that journey, on GTM, leadership, and the future of work. If you want to understand how GTM evolves beyond playbooks and assembly lines, this is where the story unfolds. Connect with me on Linkedin or X. EVERY AI TOOL THAT'S ACTUALLY EXPLODING RIGHT NOW IS A TOY. not a tool. a freaking TOY. Bear with me, and I'll prove it in 60 seconds.

let's start from the end. what's the latest thing that exploded in the AI hype cycle??

OpenClaw.

why? because it solved some painful problem? because the ROI was obvious? because it was so easy to use?

no, no, and.. no.

think about what it actually takes to run OpenClaw. you buy a mac mini. you self-host some old-school infrastructure. you spend HOURS wiring it all up.

and the reward? it pings your telegram to tell you it summarized your inbox. your inbox. the thing gmail will summarize for you with one button. for free. no mac mini required.

but nobody gets goosebumps pressing a gmail button..

but with OpenClaw you feel like Neo for a second. or even better, like you're 5 years old again.. limitless imagination, glued to the screen, refusing to get off.

ok let's go back another hype cycle.. who was the gorilla before OpenClaw?

Lovable.

you know what percentage of the apps built on it actually ship to production? less than 1%. you know their ARR? around $400M.

why? because using Lovable is like scrolling instagram. the dopamine is crazyyy.

apparently, it's freaking fun to tell a computer what you want and watch it come to life. ohh and the fact that it never comes out exactly how you pictured? somehow makes the experience even better, because surprise is the whole hit.

and then there's ChatGPT.. the mother of all AI toys.

it started as a barebones chat box and exploded for one reason. it was fun to CHAT with the GPT.

but you know what's even crazier? this whole toy thing goes back way further. before GPT was cool, Demis Hassabis, founder of DeepMind (acquired by Google to power their AI research), proved AI could push real science forward. how? GAMES.

he bet that if you could teach an AI to master a game as complex as Go and Chess, you'd teach it the general problem-solving needed for actual science. like folding proteins.

he was right. and won a Nobel Prize for it.

you know who else is weirdly in this story? NVIDIA. what were their first chips built for? yeah.. you're absolutely f*cking right. GAMES.

the original GPU existed to make games run better on a computer. that's the entire reason it was born.

ok ok, maybe that last one's a little far-fetched. but man, the coincidence is spooky.

i kept coming back to this. why the toys win and the tools wait.. so when we built Swan AI**, we didn't build another GTM tool. we built a toy. the first coding agent designed for GTM teams, not developers. and it can do some genuinely cool sh*t.. (shameless plug!)

and that's how vibe GTM was born..

so what's YOUR toy strategy for the AI revolution? you don't have one? then stop playing games and start working

Every major AI adoption wave, from NVIDIA's first GPUs to ChatGPT to OpenClaw, won through play, not utility. The same invisible law has been running the whole time, it just never had a name.

Make day one feel like play, not setup*

  • Look at the first task your trial users complete after signup.

  • If it reads like onboarding, connect, configure, confirm, that's utility.

  • Swap it for something with zero stakes, a sandbox account, a fake scenario, a result they see in 30 seconds with no real data on the line.

  • Measure day-two activation. That's the number that proves play beat utility.

Would a stranger call your onboarding sequence fun, or just functional?

Language was never learned through logic. Pipeline isn't built through it either. The only question left is whether your funnel is fun on purpose, or fun by accident, if it's fun at all.
